Starbucks Shares Surge After Third Quarter Earnings Surpass Expectations

Seattle, Washington / RankWire.AI / – Starbucks Corporation, a leader in specialty coffee, announced its fiscal third-quarter 2026 financial results on Wednesday, exceeding Wall Street expectations for both earnings and comparable store sales. Market disclosures revealed that Starbucks stock experienced a jump as efforts to enhance third place sales appear to be paying off, with the company’s outlook for 2026 improving and shares rising more than five percent during extended trading on the Nasdaq. The Seattle-based retailer reported consolidated net revenues of $9.3 billion for the 13-week period ending June 28, 2026, supported by an 8.1 percent increase in North American store sales and ongoing margin growth across its global operations.

Global comparable store sales grew by 7.9 percent year-over-year in the quarter, driven by a 4.2 percent rise in customer transaction volume and a 3.5 percent increase in average ticket size. In the primary US domestic market, comparable store sales expanded by 7.9 percent, supported by steady recovery in foot traffic and improved morning service efficiency. Non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share reached $0.85, comfortably beating analyst consensus expectations of $0.65, as compiled by Yahoo Finance. The GAAP operating margin widened by 60 basis points to 10.5 percent, benefiting from sales leverage, supply chain efficiencies, and tariff duty refunds during the quarter.

This robust quarterly performance underscores progress under the company’s turnaround strategy focused on store atmosphere, beverage speed, and hospitality standards. International segment comparable store sales increased by 5.7 percent, driven by higher average transaction values and positive customer counts across European and Middle Eastern licensed markets. Overall, consolidated revenues dipped by one percent to $9.3 billion, primarily due to the resegmentation of retail operations in China into a licensed joint venture model during the third quarter. North American operating income grew to $1.0 billion from $918.7 million in the same period last year, supported by menu innovation and reduced order downtime, which enhanced store throughput.

Starbucks Reports Strong Third Quarter Earnings Surpassing Expectations

After four straight quarters of comparable store sales growth and two consecutive quarters of operating margin expansion, leadership has upgraded the full-year financial outlook across key metrics. Management now projects fiscal 2026 non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share to range between $2.55 and $2.65, a ten percent increase from previous estimates of $2.25 to $2.45 per share. Bloomberg’s market coverage highlighted that global comparable store sales for the year are now expected to grow nearly 6.0 percent, with fourth-quarter US comparable sales growth targeted at 6.5 percent or more.

During the earnings webcast, Starbucks Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol emphasized that the third-quarter results demonstrate the company’s strength in coffee excellence and customer experience. Niccol highlighted that, although operational execution continues across the global store network, these quarterly figures confirm positive momentum in restoring store ambiance and drive-thru efficiency. CFO Cathy Smith noted that disciplined cost management and top-line growth have provided clear visibility to raise the full-year guidance, setting the full-year consolidated operating margin expectations above 11.0 percent.

Starbucks’ Adjusted Third Quarter Earnings Outperform Wall Street Projections

Throughout the quarter, the company maintained a disciplined pace of store expansion, net adding 175 new coffeehouses worldwide to bring its total to 41,304 locations. Company-operated stores now account for 33 percent of the global footprint, with licensed locations making up 67 percent across both domestic and international markets. Financial reports confirm that Starbucks stock rises as the efforts to reestablish third place sales are bearing fruit, boosting the 2026 outlook as institutional investors respond favorably to capital plans that include consistent quarterly dividends and targeted investments in store renovations and technology enhancements.

Looking ahead to the final quarter of fiscal 2026, industry analysts anticipate continued focus on menu simplification and upgrades to bar equipment to sustain store throughput improvements. The third-quarter results reinforce Starbucks’ operational trajectory, positioning the company to meet its higher financial targets for the full fiscal year.
