Trade and diplomatic relations between UAE and Germany witness expansion through high-level talks

BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a recent meeting in Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting economic collaboration, and fostering development. They also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace, and global security. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored methods to enhance the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across multiple sectors. Prominent in their talks were economic ties and development cooperation. The ministers also shared perspectives on international challenges and diplomatic strategies to address crises. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the longstanding ties between the two nations and their history of cooperation in political and economic spheres.

This Berlin summit came as both countries advanced their formal bilateral framework. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where they announced a Strategic Dialogue that will encompass security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The dialogue also aims to expand cooperation into digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, culture, and education, thereby broadening the scope of ongoing governmental engagement.

Broadening economic scope through strategic alliance

Both governments expressed support for establishing a German-UAE Investment Council, part of broader efforts to foster connections between public agencies and private sector entities in each country. Officials also welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The state visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros, as detailed in the joint government declaration.

Economic dialogues covered areas such as energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration outlined cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for sophisticated data centers with a capacity of approximately one gigawatt. Germany and the UAE further identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key focus areas for joint efforts, alongside investments and industrial collaboration.

Focus on diplomatic engagement and regional stability persists

Discussions between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul also addressed regional and global developments. Their talks included international initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and security. Diplomacy and peaceful crisis management remained central to their agenda. The German government also emphasized Middle East peace and stability during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ dialogue within the broader diplomatic context in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the meeting between the two foreign ministers. The discussions linked foreign policy strategies with economic and development priorities discussed during the state visit. These talks built upon earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The latest meetings added new institutional frameworks to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, maintaining economic cooperation, investment, and diplomacy as core pillars of the relationship.
