BASRA, IRAQ / MENA Newswire / – Iraq’s state-run Basra Oil Company signed a five-year integrated management contract with Halliburton for the Bin Omar and Sindbad oil fields in Basra province, Iraq’s Ministry of Oil said. The agreement covers field management work aimed at raising crude oil and associated gas production at two southern oil assets. Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair attended the signing, according to the ministry statement.

Iraq sets Halliburton contract for Basra oil fields
The five-year Iraq deal links Halliburton with two Basra oil and gas fields.

The contract sets production targets for both fields over the five-year term. Bin Omar output is planned to reach 150,000 barrels per day. Associated gas production at the field is set at 300 million standard cubic feet per day. Sindbad crude output is planned to rise from 80,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day, with associated gas capacity moving from 240 million to 260 million standard cubic feet per day.

Basra Oil Company signed the agreement with the U.S. oilfield services company as Iraq continues work on upstream oil and gas projects in its southern producing region. The ministry described the deal as an integrated management contract for the two fields. The Bin Omar and Sindbad fields are located in Basra, the main center of Iraq’s oil production and export infrastructure.

    Production targets set

The agreement follows earlier approvals and discussions tied to the development of the Nahr Bin Omar and Sindbad fields. Iraqi authorities had previously authorized steps linked to field development contracts with Halliburton. The latest announcement confirms the signing of the five-year contract and identifies the production levels targeted under the agreement. It also places both fields within the same management framework.

Iraq’s Ministry of Oil said the contract supports plans to increase oil and gas production capacity. The ministry statement linked the work to higher crude output and expanded use of associated gas. Associated gas is produced alongside crude oil and can support power generation and industrial use when it is captured and processed. Iraq has been working to expand gas handling from oil fields.

    Basra fields covered

The Bin Omar field has appeared in earlier Iraqi energy planning under the name Nahr Bin Omar. The field sits in the Basra area, where Iraq operates several large oil and gas assets. Sindbad is also located in the province and forms part of the same contract package. The signed deal gives the two fields defined output targets within a five-year operating period.

The contract adds another U.S. company role in Iraq’s oilfield services sector. Halliburton has worked in Iraq through drilling, field services and project support contracts. The new agreement assigns the company work at two Basra fields under an integrated management structure. Iraq remains one of the world’s major crude producers, and Basra provides the country’s main route for oil exports from southern terminals.
