Jaguar Type 01 electric GT targets 400-mile EPA range

NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / – Jaguar introduced the production Type 01 in New York on October 6, opening a new chapter for the British luxury brand. The four-door electric grand tourer is the first production Jaguar built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. It also becomes the most powerful Jaguar road car yet. Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027. Prices will start at £130,000, with first customer deliveries planned for the second half of 2027.

The Type 01 uses three electric motors that produce up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque. Jaguar says the car reaches 62 mph from rest in 3.2 seconds. It can accelerate from 62 mph to 112 mph in another 4.0 seconds. Engineers gave the model a 50:50 weight distribution and intelligent torque vectoring. Drivers can also choose between two dynamic settings that adjust ride comfort and response. The system forms part of a chassis package developed specifically for the new electric GT.

Jaguar fitted the Type 01 with an 850-volt electrical architecture and a battery offering 118 kWh of usable capacity. The company estimates up to 400 miles of range under the EPA cycle. Jaguar also cites up to 450 miles, or 720 kilometers, under the WLTP standard. A 350 kW DC charger can add up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes. Final range and charging figures remain subject to homologation and real-world conditions.

Electric GT adopts new Jaguar design language

The Type 01 carries a low roofline, long bonnet and sweeping fastback profile across its four-door body. Jaguar says the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.23, the lowest for any production model in its history. Active aerodynamic vanes help control airflow around the vehicle. A three-stage deployable rear spoiler adds further aerodynamic support. Wheel sizes extend to 23 inches. The production design keeps key themes from the earlier Type 00 concept while adapting them for road use.

Inside, the cabin uses four individual seats arranged around a central structural spine. Jaguar combines brass-effect aluminum trim with a 24-inch OLED display positioned ahead of the driver. A separate seven-inch touchscreen manages selected vehicle functions. The Type 01 also introduces the brand’s latest infotainment system. Its audio package includes a full-width panoramic soundbar designed for the cabin layout. Jaguar has kept the interior focused on four occupants instead of using a conventional five-seat configuration.

British production will begin next year

JLR plans to start Type 01 production at its Solihull plant in Britain during 2027. Wolverhampton will supply the electric drive units and battery packs. Halewood in Merseyside will provide pressed body panels for the car. JLR said nearly 9,000 Solihull workers have received training connected to electric vehicle manufacturing. Jaguar designed and engineered the Type 01 in the United Kingdom. The company will also build the production vehicle there.

Jaguar held the world premiere at STORIED in West Chelsea after digital displays appeared across several New York locations. Those sites included Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side. Jaguar TCS Racing driver António Félix da Costa drove the Type 01 to the event. The company also named actor Florence Pugh as the first brand ambassador for its latest brand phase. Singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro performed during the launch. The event gave Jaguar its first public production showcase for the Type 01 ahead of order books opening in 2027.
